The Savoy Theatre as it sits today was built on the site of the original Bell inn around 1832, originally named The Assembly Rooms; it soon took license for entertainment.  Refurbished in the 1850’s the theatre then began a life of varying uses, from  a roller rink to cinema whilst still playing theatrical shows in between.  In more recent times it has even had a brief spell as a Bingo hall, the theatre is now reputedly the oldest working theatre site in Wales and houses 360 seats and s run by the charitable trust.

Join W.A.S.P.S Wales as we venture into Carmarthenshire, built in 1906 as a Public Hall its aim was to improve life for the local community. The upkeep of the Hall was possible thanks to the local miners, contributing 1p from their weekly wage. The hall was extended in 1932 adding many separate rooms and facilities and it was soon regarded as one of the finest of its kind in South Wales. Sadly as the coal mining industry declined, so did the hall closing in 1984 it sat as an eyesore to the villagers who had once paid for its upkeep. The hall re-opened in 1996 thanks to the hard work of the local mayor who refused to see the hall die.

Built In 1876 by the Annison family the building was used to house their cart building business including stables for the horses. The family changed to the funeral business and the building became a funeral parlour. It has also housed the Headquarters of the mounted police over the years and different parts of the complex have housed numerous business premises including a photographer’s workshop. A young Victorian lady once visited to have her portrait taken and it is rumoured that the Annison buildings is the last place she was seen alive before being found in a ditch with her throat slashed, it is also rumoured a suspect of this horrific crime was possibly one of the suspected men who committed the Whitechapel murders aka Jack the Ripper!!
